El Comité de seguridad marítima (MSC 106), adopta el Código internacional de seguridad para los buques que transportan personal industrial (Código IP), de carácter obligatorio.

El delegado del Gobierno en Galicia, José Miñones, ha rechazado que sea "necesaria" una Dirección General de Prevención y Seguridad Marítima como la que hubo, inicialmente, en A Coruña tras la catástrofe del Prestige. "No entendemos que sea necesario como tal, desde Salvamento Marítimo y desde Marina Mercante se hace todo el protocolo y se establecen los niveles de alerta", ha manifestado.

The Malacca Strait as one of the main routes of world trade has the potential for the emergence of transnational crime. The strategic location of the Malacca Strait makes it fragile and vulnerable to piracy practices. The occurrence of this piracy has the potential to disrupt shipping lane traffic so that shipping safety is threatened and causes substantial losses for ship owners. But it is not only piracy that causes considerable losses, there is other factor that are also very influential besides piracy, namely accidents. The IMO MSC 106, 2-11 November 2022, adopted a new SOLAS Chapter XV on safety measures for ships carrying industrial personnel (IP) along with a related mandatory IP Code, and progressed the development of the draft of a new international code of safety for autonomous ships.

Requirements to permit LNG tanks constructed from high manganese steel were adopted, and new safety guidelines for lifting appliances and anchor handling winches were approved, among others. DNV provides an analysis of the key issues discussed as follows:
