 X-Press Feeders, the operator of the containership X-Press Pearl, lost off Sri Lanka after a container fire in 2021, has issued a statement critical of the Sri Lanka Supreme Court while appealing for “rational decision-making and judgments regarding liability and compensation.” The company says it is “deeply” concerned by the recent court decision ordering an initial payment of $1 billion within the year.

While saying it recognizes the need for compensation for any environmental damage, X-Press Feeder writes, “we believe that it must be done in an equitable and fair manner.” They point

Türkiye has expanded its protected maritime zones in response to Greece's recent declaration of two new marine parks in the Ionian and Aegean Seas.

Ankara formally announced two new marine protected areas: one off the coast of Gokceada in the Northern Aegean and another off the coast of Finike in the Mediterranean.

The areas have been integrated into Türkiye's National Maritime Spatial Planning map, which is registered with the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) under UNESCO.

El Comité Documental de BIMCO  adoptó una cláusula estándar destinada a abordar las incertidumbres contractuales que pueden surgir de la Notificación de Acciones del Representante Comercial de los Estados Unidos (USTR) para imponer tarifas a los buques relacionados con China que atraquen en puertos estadounidenses.

Un subcomité de BIMCO compuesto por expertos legales y comerciales comenzó a trabajar en la cláusula a principios de junio, priorizando su desarrollo luego de que el USTR anunciara acciones para imponer tarifas a los barcos que atracan en puertos estadounidenses que son construidos en China o tienen propietarios u operadores chinos.
