Gwangju prosecutors yesterday asked for the death penalty for Lee Jun-seok, captain of the doomed Sewol, holding him accountable for “causing a calamity” on April 16 that left over 300 people dead or missing.
Prosecutors asked for life imprisonment for three of the 14 Sewol crew members indicted for murder, involuntary manslaughter or negligence of duty. Along with Captain Lee, the three crew members are charged with murder for abandoning the sinking ship without issuing an evacuation order, leading to massive casualties.
Prison terms of 15 to 30 years were requested for the other 11.

En el salón de actos del colegio público Jovellanos (calle de la Merced), a las 19.30 horas de hoy se celebrará una mesa redonda sobre la autopista del mar Gijón-Nantes, en la que está previsto que participen José Antonio Madiedo Acosta, capitán de la Marina Civil y exdirector general de Marina Mercante; Mario Suárez del Fueyo, en representación de la eurodiputada Tania González; Luis Alfredo Fernández, presidente del Comité de Empresa de la Autoridad Portuaria de Gijón; y Xuan Cándano, periodista y director de "Atlántica XXII". También están invitados representantes del Ayuntamiento de Gijón y de la Autoridad Portuaria. Organizan el acto la Asociación Española de Marina Civil y "Asturbulla.org". Será el moderador Miguel Ángel Llana Suárez. La entrada es libre.

Reganosa avanza en el proyecto de convertir a Ferrol en el enclave de referencia en la fachada atlántica para el suministro de gas para el transporte marítimo. Su plan se basa en la transformación por completo su modelo de negocio, pasando de ser una planta en la que se descarga y carga el combustible a un centro logístico en el que además de estas actividades se garantice el abastecimiento de gas a otros buques tanto desde la propia terminal como en otros puntos, a través de barcos auxiliares

DryShips shares took a nosedive Monday after the company nixed a $700m bond offering and as shipping shares suffered across the board.

The Nasdaq-listed shipowner’s shares lost 21% to close the day at $1.47, putting it as the biggest decliner among sharply declining maritime stocks. The drop slashed $169m from the company’s market capitalisation.

As TradeWinds reported earlier in the day, DryShips announced that it withdrew a $700m secured notes offering aimed at refinancing existing convertible notes.
