La remodelación del buque Estrella Oriental, que naufragó la semana pasada en el río Yangtsé de China causando la muerte de 434 personas, pudo haber afectado la estabilidad del buque y haber incrementado el riesgo de hundimiento, publican hoy medios no oficiales del país.
La embarcación, que naufragó supuestamente por un tornado el lunes pasado, sufrió "cambios" importantes en 1997, cuando pasó de medir 66 metros de longitud a 76,5, informó el diario Beijing Times poco antes de que la noticia fuese censurada y después de que muchos medios se hicieran eco de ella hoy.
Entre los cambios hubo algunos claves, como cerrar las cubiertas, agrandar los camarotes y limitar las salidas de estos a tan sólo

Collaboration along on the supply chain will be key to the seamless cargo operations of the future, but at the moment container terminals are failing to meet the challenge of bigger ships and consignment sizes per call.
"In the largest container ship category, there has been a slight decline in berth productivity in the past few years," Hans Augusteijn, Maersk Line head of network and procurement for North Europe, told delegates at the TOC 2015 Container Supply Chain Conference in Rotterdam.
He said improved productivity was crucial to ensuring the economies of scale achieved by using bigger ships and that benefitted not only shipping lines but the rest of the supply chain.
