Marina Civil cuestiona la gestión del caso «Prestige»

José Antonio Madiedo, presidente de la Asociación Española de Marina Civil y ex director de Marina Civil, cuestionó ayer las actuaciones realizadas por las autoridades tras el accidente del Prestige . Asimismo, criticó el trato dado al capitán del petrolero, de quien dijo que los dirigentes habían pretendido que se convirtiera en un mozo de cubierta, en una situación de peligro tras inundarse el barco, escorarse unos 25 grados y con el derrame del fuel que había convertido la cubierta en «una pista de patinaje». Asimismo, Madiedo anunció que se querellará contra el presidente de Asociación Española de Titulados Náutico Pesqueros (Aetinape), José Manuel Muñiz, por responsabilizarlo de las muertes provocadas por el accidente del Casón . Madiedo Acosta será uno de los participantes en la primera jornada sobre la catástrofe del Prestige , que se desarrollará mañana, a partir de las diez de la mañana, en las instalaciones de A Fábrica, en Perillo.

The Greek company that owned and operated the Galissas, its captain, and chief engineer were each sentenced in U.S. District Court in Rhode Island on 10th August, for environmental crimes committed in February 2022, announced United States Attorney Zachary A. Cunha.

In May 2023, Zeus Lines Management S.A., (Zeus) owner/operator of the Gallissas, was sentenced by United States District Judge Mary S. McElroy to pay a total monetary penalty of $2.25 million, consisting of a fine of $1,687,500 and a community service payment of $562,500.

The community service payment will go to the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to fund projects to benefit marine and coastal natural resources located in the

INTERCARGO published its Bulk Carrier Casualty Report, reporting that 26 bulk carriers of over 10,000 dwt were declared as total losses for the years 2013-2022.

According to INTERCARGO, bulkers losses took place as follows:

  • 80,000+ dwt: Six ships were lost, accounting for 23.1% of the total 26 casualties reported. There casualties cost 22 lives, or 21.2% of the total 104 lives lost during the period. In 2020 the losses of one Capesize and one VLOC vessel (Wakashio and Stellar Banner) focused attention on large bulk carrier safety.
  • The lowest number of casualties occurred in the 60,000-79,999 dwt range, representing 7.7%
