Experts say the shipping industry will have to decarbonise rapidly to keep global average temperature increases below the critical threshold of 1.5C, and find alternative green fuels to the polluting diesel that currently powers most vessels.
To keep 1.5C alive, global emissions will need to peak by 2025, halve by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, according to the UN’s climate science body, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Shipping is currently responsible for nearly 3% of global emissions, generating around 1 billion tonnes of CO2 and greenhouse gases each year. If it were a country,

In the latest sign of the reversal of fortune in the container shipping markets, an oversupply of containers is emerging resulting in step declines in secondhand container prices worldwide. While global shipping volumes remain high, slowing demand and better utilization are contributing to a near-term decline in the price of boxes that is expected to slowly level off as the peak shipping season ramps up toward the end of year retail selling season.
“As markets reopen and demand softens, the oversupply is a natural outcome of demand-supply forces balancing at new levels,” said Christian Roeloffs, Co-founder and CEO of Container xChange,

El Consejo de Ministros, en su reunión de hoy y a propuesta del Ministerio de Transportes, Movilidad y Agenda Urbana (Mitma), ha aprobado un Real Decreto por el que se modifican diversas normas reglamentarias en materia de seguridad marítima que afectan, sobre todo, a la seguridad de los buques y sus equipos, a la seguridad marítima en la actividad de la náutica de recreo y a la función inspectora de la Dirección General de la Marina Mercante (DGMM), como Administración marítima.
