WASHINGTON, April 29, 2014 – In a worldwide all-hands call today, Navy Secretary Ray Mabus addressed sailors and Marines’ concerns about the state of both maritime forces.
From a Defense Media Activity studio at Fort Meade, Md., Mabus fielded questions on the Ukraine situation, budgets and force structure, as well as many others, through a variety of platforms including social media, video teleconferencing, Skype and phone calls from locations around the world.
The secretary’s first question came via VTC from Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team Company Europe, where he was asked about the potential impact of a greater U.S. naval presence on the situation in Ukraine.
European Parliament Adopts European Maritime and Fisheries Fund Package

EU - The European Parliament has voted to adopt the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) package, the final part of the reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). The Parliament voted 473 in favour and 52 against.
With a budget of €6.5 billion for 2014-2020, the fund will finance projects to implement the new reformed Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) and provide financial support to fishermen, fish farmers and coastal communities to adapt to the changed rules. The Fund will also finance projects to boost "blue" growth and jobs under the EU's Integrated Maritime Policy (IMP).

La ordenación del espacio marítimo (OEM) es una piedra angular de la estrategia de «crecimiento azul» de la Comisión y de la política marítima integrada de la UE.
El Parlamento Europeo ha aprobado una Directiva sobre la ordenación del espacio marítimo que debe ayudar a los Estados miembros a elaborar planes para mejorar la coordinación de las distintas actividades que tienen lugar en el mar, velando por que sean tan eficientes y sostenibles como sea posible. En las zonas marítimas y costeras muchas actividades compiten por el mismo espacio y recursos: caladeros, explotaciones acuícolas, zonas marinas protegidas, así como infraestructuras marítimas tales como cables, conducciones, vías navegables e instalaciones de petróleo, gas y energía eólica.
