Shipowners have been proactive in their adoption of environmentally friendly lubricants to satisfy the December 19, 2013 U.S. vessel general permit (VGP) requirements, perhaps more proactive than some of the oil companies.
Rob Atkinson, executive director of UniMarine, reflects on the new requirements one year on, and remembers in the months leading up to the new regulation that shipowners were asking and oil companies weren’t necessarily able to deliver. “There was a lot of last minute rushing for something that people knew was coming, and even after the VGP took effect, the level of demand was not well anticipated,” says Atkinson. “They all seemed to be scrambling.”

LONDRES (Reuters) - Las exportaciones de petróleo de Irak están aumentando hacia niveles récord en diciembre, según datos de carga y fuentes de la industria, en momentos en que el segundo productor de la OPEP está bombeando mayores volúmenes pese a que el crudo está cotizando cerca a mínimos de cinco años.
El incremento se sumará a los abundantes suministros y podría preocupar a otros miembros de la Organización de Países Exportadores de Petróleo incapaces de expandir sus exportaciones y afectados por la caída en los ingresos petroleros tras un descenso de casi un 50 por ciento en los precios desde junio.

The ship will cost €230 million and hold 2800 passngers.
Estonian shipper AS Tallink Grupp has ordered a "New Generation" liquefied natural gas (LNG) car-passenger ferry for its Tallinn-Helsinki route, the company announced.
Tallink said that it had signed an agreement with Meyer Turku Oy to construct the 2800-passenger capacity LNG vessel for roughly €230 million. ($284.6 million)
The ship, in addition to complying with upcoming sulfur regulations, was also designed for energy efficiency and increasing recycling utilisation.
