The Norwegian Maritime Code 24 June 1994 no. 39
with later amendments up to and including Act 26 March 2010 no. 10
Unofficial student edition A translation was originally made by Peter Bilton at the request of the Ministry of Justice. Please refer to the last page for the authors of later editons. Throughout the translation, the Norwegian term “reder” has been used when the original utilises this term or the term “rederi.” There is no equivalent English term. The “reder” is the person (or company) that runs the vessel for his or her own account, typically the owner or the demise charterer. Time charterers and voyage charterers are not considered “reders”. The translation of titles of acts and some other terminology rely heavily on precedents. It has been considered more important to facilitate reference than to attempt to improve more or less established terminology.
