Ship and offshore classification society DNV GL has launched a new version of its Navigator Port 2 clearance software, with new usability features, intuitive structure and improved interface.

Formerly known as DNV Navigator, the newer maritime software was released after the merger of DNV and GL last year.

Navigator Port 2 features an improved interface, is more intuitive and efficient, with a work-orientated process for easy understanding and navigating within.

The new enhancements not only increase usability and save time in the actual port clearance process, but also require fewer resources for training new users and implementation.

DNV GL Navigator Port product manager Tom Fiksdalstrand said: "With today's increasingly complex regulations, shipowners are realising that they cannot continue with

The UK Government has launched its first national strategy for maritime security (NSMS), in a demonstration of the country's approach to delivering maritime security at home and abroad.

The strategy sets out how the UK will organise and deploy its national capabilities to detect, assess and manage maritime security challenges. It also aims to connect the government with industry and international partners, to build an effective approach to maritime security risks faced by seafarers.

UK Chamber of Shipping CEO Guy Platten said that piracy may not be making as many headlines this year, but it is still a major threat to the safety of seafarers in many parts of the world, particularly in West Africa, in the Gulf of Guinea,

“¿En qué estaban pensando cuando malgastaban el dinero europeo?”, preguntaba alarmado un primer ministro en plena negociación del rescate a España, hace dos años. Quizá lo resuma aquella viñeta humorística publicada en un diario alemán cuando la burbuja inmobiliaria reventaba: un griego, un español y un italiano tumbados al sol en la playa pedían a un sudoroso y servil germano que invitase a otra ronda de cerveza.
