Your excellencies,

Colleagues from the International Maritime Organization and the International Renewable Energy Agency,

Ladies and gentlemen,

Dear friends,

Our maritime transport system is the lifeblood of the global economy, facilitating over 80 per cent of the world's trade volume.

Yet, this vital sector also contributes to nearly 3 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions.

As sea-borne trade has grown, emissions have escalated by 20 per cent in just the past decade, a trajectory we simply cannot afford to continue.

Our message today, here at the COP, is very clear: bold, global action is necessary to decarbonize shipping.

However, to do this effectively, we must engage with

Associated natural gas production has tripled since 2018 in top three Permian oil plays

Data source: Enverus DrillingInfo
Note: Information on EIA's classification of oil and natural gas wells is available in our Drilling Productivity Report Supplement. The three major oil plays are the Spraberry, Wolfcamp, and Bone Spring plays. Data reflect the average from January through July 2023.

Production of associated-dissolved natural gas, or associated natural gas, which is natural gas produced from predominantly oil wells, has nearly tripled since 2018 in the three top-producing tight oil plays in the Permian region. Associated natural gas from the Wolfcamp, Spraberry, and Bone Spring plays averaged a combined 13.7 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) in the first seven months of 2023, up from an average of 4.7 Bcf/d in 2018, according to data from Enverus

Bunker vessel to deliver ammonia to ocean going vessels (Azane Fuel Solutions)

PUBLISHED NOV 29, 2023 7:09 PM BY

THE MARITIME EXECUTIVE

Azane Fuel Solutions, a joint venture between ECONNECT Energy and Amon Maritime, is moving forward with the design of an ammonia bunker vessel to be used for fueling large vessels. They believe the vessel will be a key component in the efforts to decarbonize shipping and as part of their development project, they will also explore incorporating the ammonia-to-power system developed by U.S.-startup Amogy into the vessel.

The company was started to provide the infrastructure to support the use of ammonia in a variety of settings. Their first effort focused on a shore

[By James Mason, Alice Larkin and Simon Bullock]

In the vast expanse of the world’s oceans, a transformation is underway.

The international shipping sector, made up of thousands of massive cargo ships laden with many of the goods we buy, emits carbon dioxide (CO?) roughly equivalent to the entire country of Germany.

Our research emphasises the need for immediate action. Reducing shipping emissions by 34% by 2030 is necessary to stay on course with the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal. But with low-carbon fuel pipelines unlikely to be available at the necessary scale until at least the 2030s, how can the industry meet its short-term target?

Enter a new solution with ancient origins: sails. Not the
