Jan De Nul launches second cable laying giaVessels

Jan De Nul has launched William Thomson, the second of two identical subsea cable‑laying vessels (CLVs) currently under construction.

Both vessels have a cargo capacity of 28,000 tons and a length of 215 meters. This makes them the largest of their kind, Jan De Nul said.

 

Jan De Nul’s two new CLVs have been specially built to install subsea cables, both in shallow and ultra-deep waters down to 4,000 meters. Thanks to their large loading capacity, they can take longer cables on board in a single piece and bridge longer distances with as few subsea cable connections as possible.

Información relacionada con el transporte marítimo y la gente de mar - Estrecho de Ormuz y Oriente Próximo.

 

La actual inestabilidad en Oriente Medio ha creado un entorno complejo y en rápida evolución para el transporte marítimo mundial. La OMI está siguiendo de cerca los acontecimientos para apoyar la seguridad y el bienestar de más de 20.000 marinos de la región, en particular los que han quedado varados en buques que no pueden salir por el Estrecho de Ormuz.

La OMI se ha comprometido a promover el paso seguro y salvaguardar a los trabajadores marítimos.

El Consejo de la OMI ha hecho un llamamiento para que cesen todos los ataques contra buques que afectan a marinos civiles inocentes
