Wärtsilä is delivering several scrubbers a month in the lead up to the ECA regulations entering into force in Europe in 2015. It is now too late to start and finish an installation project by the end of the year, but this delivery rate is more likely to pick up than to abate.
“The main argument for scrubbers is that you get a cost saving compared to switching to gas oil inside ECAs, and we initially thought that the financial argument would be the only driver,” says Sigurd Jenssen, director, EGC at Wärtsilä Environmental Solutions. Introducción
Cuando Plimsoll consigue ver convertida en norma su propuesta para limitar la carga de los buques del Reino Unido, hacía muchas décadas que un gran número capitanes civiles marcaban el costado de sus respectivos barcos tratando de tener un límite y una referencia para evitar la sobrecarga del barco.
En el año 1835, el Lloyd´s Register fijó tres pulgadas de francobordo por cada pie de puntal de bodega. En 1875 Samuel Plimsoll, miembro del parlamento, promovió la legislación necesaria para fijar una marca en los costados del buque, con el fin de limitar el calado hasta el cual podría cargar. Esta marca es conocida como Disco Plimsoll, aunque su denominación oficial es la de marca de francobordo.

Interest in using liquefied natural gas as vessel fuel is highlighting the need for regulatory policies and operational and safety standards, according to a new Maritime Administration study on LNG bunkering.
The U.S. is hardly the only country trying to a handle on using LNG as a maritime fuel. Vessel owners and operators worldwide are evaluating LNG fuel as an economical way to meet increasingly stringent air-quality standards imposed by the International Maritime Organization and, in some cases, regional regulators.
