Durante los últimos cinco años la Provincia de Tierra del Fuego desarrolló el Programa Arqueológico Costa Atlántica (PACA), coordinado por su Dirección Provincial de Museos y Patrimonio Cultural. Las tareas contaron con la colaboración de personal propio y especialistas de los ámbitos provincial y nacional con el fin de efectuar un “inventario del patrimonio”.
Entre los hallazgos más relevantes se encontraron restos atribuidos al más antiguo naufragio registrado para la costa atlántica fueguina, el de la fragata española Purísima Concepción, perdida en el extremo oriental de la isla en 1765.
Sobre la base del diario escrito por los náufragos se sabe que el accidente ocurrió en la madrugada del día 10 de enero, y que los 193 tripulantes sobrevivieron.

At 09:00 AM local time on April 10, MSC Armonia arrived in the port of Isla Roatan, Honduras. While manoeuvring alongside, for reasons that are currently still being duly investigated, the ship deviated from her course and grazed the end of the pier.
There was never any risk for guests or crew on board. There was also no impact for the environment. In fact, while there was a slight delay for our guests to disembark, all who were scheduled to go ashore on excursions and other activities disembarked as planned.
As to the ship, the damage was minor. Following repairs, she has also since been cleared by Honduran Port State Control authorities to continue her journey.
MSC Armonia left the port at approximately 3:30 AM local time today, which would bring her into Belize, her next scheduled port of call, by approximately 11 AM.

El accidente se salda con un fallecido, un desaparecido y 25 rescatados.
El buque pesquero "Dorneda", embarcación española de la empresa Freiremar, se hundió durante la madrugada de hoy a 308 millas náuticas (más de 500 kilómetros) frente a la costa de Comodoro Rivadavia. Según informó la Armada Argentina de manera oficial, 25 de sus tripulantes, de nacionalidad española, peruana, marroquí e indonesia, fueron rescatados con vida, pero un marinero murió y otro se encuentra desaparecido.
