Supply and demand for seafarers — have your say!

Seafarers are being urged to have their say on life at sea as part of a major new international research project into maritime labour supply and demand.

BIMCO and the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) conduct highly respected surveys of the worldwide supply and demand for seafarers every five years. The collection of data for the BIMCO/ICS Manpower Report 2015 has now started, with the aim of establishing:

  • is there a shortage of seafarers?
  • are we recruiting and training enough seafarers?
  • what will the situation look like in 10 years’ time?

In addition to detailed questionnaires to employers and maritime administrations, the 2015 survey will use social media to gather opinions from a range of maritime professionals. The first one targets seafarers.

The researchers want to hear seafarers’ views on a number of issues concerning their life at sea to help inform the 2015 Manpower Report. In particular, they are seeking feedback on job satisfaction, working conditions and retention.

Please help by completing a quick questionnaire. It will take no longer than 10 minutes to complete and all information is completely confidential. Responses are needed by Christmas.
