Iran's Oceangoing Vessel in Final Production Phase

 
TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran's first home-made oceangoing vessel, named Persian Gulf, is in its final construction phase and will launch operation soon, a researcher at the Iranian National Institute for Oceanography (INIO) announced on Monday.

Speaking to FNA, INIO Faculty Member Abbas Nobakhti said that the Iranian oceangoing vessel will come into operation in June.

The Persian Gulf oceangoer which has been designed for science missions can stay at sea for 45 days and take samples from the layers of the bottom of the high seas from the depth of 3,000 meters.

Persian Gulf, which has been equppied with the state-of-the-art maritime research and oceanography tools, systems and equipment is 50 meters long and 10 meters wide and it weighs 900 tons.

More and more ship owners are looking to capitalize on low pricing of newbuildings, but at the same time, after the "bonanza" of the first few months of the year, some of them are now contemplating their next moves, as the freight markets don't seem to follow pace and move upwards as was widely expected to occur this year. Newbuilding ordering activity rises by 78% in dwt tonnage over the first 4 months of the years, as owners invest$40.5 bn

Ship owners have plunged into newbuilding orders during the first four months of the year, as overall newbuilding business ended for the first four months of 2014 at 55% higher volume of activity, in terms of number of units and 78% higher, in terms of deadweight, based on figures compiled by shipbroker Golden Destiny. The total number of new orders is estimated to be 1054 vessels with an invested capital of more than $40.5bn, when last year the number of new orders was 681.
