Oceanbird is like no other cargo vessel. Mostly because of its 80 metres high wings, which gives the ship enough power to transport 7,000 cars across the ocean.

Evolution equipped birds with wings to enable them to harness the power of the wind. It’s the same with Oceanbird. But instead of feathers, the wings are made of steel and composite materials. Thanks to a telescopic function, the wings can be reduced to a quarter of its length – from 80 to 20 metres. This function is key for several reasons, most important being:

  • Being able to pass under bridges.
  • Reducing the maximum air draft of the ship in port.
  • Reducing rig forces in strong winds.
  • Enable maintenance of wings.
  • Improve performance in wider wind

  1. What is offshore renewable energy?

Offshore renewable energy can come from a diversity of abundant, natural and clean sources. The technologies to exploit them are at different stages of development.

  • Offshore bottom-fixed wind is already advanced, with 12 GW installed today in EU waters.
  • Floating offshore wind has an installed capacity of 40MW and some Member States are announcing large commercial projects.
  • Ocean energy technologies such as wave and tidal devices, with a current installed capacity of 13 MW, are reaching a level of maturity that makes them interesting for future applications.
  • Additional technologies, such as biofuels from algae (biodiesel, biogas and bioethanol), floating photovoltaic installations and thermal energy conversion are at an early development stage today, but could be promising for the future.
  1. How does this strategy help to reach

10 YEARS OF LNG AT SEA

DELIVERING CLEAN POWER FOR THE FUTURE
We have significant and growing experience with Rolls-Royce Bergen* lean-burn technology. More than 700 gas engines have been delivered for operation on land or at sea, and more than 31 million running hours of experience have been accumulated

The marine industry relies on fuel oils for most powering needs, but tighter emission regulations and the need to ‘go green’ are starting to convince operators to consider alternatives. Our gas engines have proven themselves to be the cleanest, most efficient piston engines on the market. Since the introduction of the Bergen lean-burn technology more than 700 gas

By Reuters Staff

LONDON (Reuters) - The United Nations shipping agency on Friday approved a ban on the use of heavy fuel oil in the Arctic region in a move criticised by green groups which said loopholes will allow many vessels to keep sailing without enough regulatory control.

Antarctic waters are protected by stringent regulations, including a ban on heavy oil fuel (HFO) adopted in 2011, even though no cargo moves through the turbulent southern waters. For the Arctic, the rules have been looser.

In a virtual session of its Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) the UN’s International Maritime

Oil Prices Soar On Major Crude Draw

By Julianne Geiger - Nov 03, 2020, 4:00 PM CST

The American Petroleum Institute (API) reported on Tuesday a major draw in crude oil inventories of 8.01 million barrels for the week ending October 30.

Analysts had predicted an inventory build of 890,000 barrels.

In the previous week, the API reported a surprise build in oil inventories of 4.577-million barrels, after analysts had predicted a draw of 1.11 million barrels.

Oil prices were trading up on Tuesday afternoon before the API’s data release in the runup to the U.S. election. Bearish factors this week include a ramp-up of oil production in OPEC producer Libya, the resolution to the latest storm that has disrupted oil and gas production
