The top official in French President Emmanuel Macron's office has been charged with a conflict of interest while in office, the chief financial crimes prosecutor said Monday, October 3.

Alexis Kohler, who holds one of France's most powerful jobs as Elysee secretary-general, is accused over his professional and family links with Italian-Swiss shipping company MSC which is run by his mother's cousins.

On Monday, he "categorically denied any wrongdoing", his lawyer said in a statement, while an official in Mr. Macron's office said Mr. Kohler remained in his post.

Hundreds of seafarers still stuck in Ukraine

Around 82 ships with 418 seafarers remain stuck around Ukrainian ports despite the opening of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

As Reuters reports, according to analysis by the ICS six ships, which had been stuck since February, had been able to leave Ukraine before the corridor was announced in July.

The agreement was reached in July, creating a protected sea transit corridor, in order to alleviate global food shortages. However, the initiative only involved dry bulk ships around three Ukrainian ports with dozens of other vessels including oil tankers not able to access the corridor.

These vessels now await for approval to leave while waterways remain controlled by Russia and other ports are blocked

Antitrust: Commission seeks feedback on performance of exemption for liner shipping consortia

The European Commission has launched today a call for evidence inviting feedback on the performance of the EU legal framework which exempts liner shipping consortia from EU antitrust rules (Consortia Block Exemption Regulation or ‘CBER').

Today, the Commission has also sent targeted questionnaires to interested parties in the maritime liner shipping supply chain (i.e. carriers, shippers and freight forwarders, port and terminal operators) on the impact of consortia between liner shipping companies, as well as of the CBER on their operations since 2020.

Interested parties can provide comments for eight weeks, until 3 October 2022.
