kongsberg Maritime has received an order from Italian shipping company Grimaldi Group to provide engineering and technology for two new roll-on-roll-off (Ro-Ro) vessels.
Expected to be delivered in 2025, the two new 7,800-line metre (LM) ships will be constructed at China Merchant Jinling Shipyard.
Under the Nkr220m ($21.5m) contract, Kongsberg will deliver the marine automation system, as well as Auto Chief 600 propulsion control systems, hybrid systems and converters.

Danish marine pump specialist Svanehøj has received an order to provide fuel pumps for eight multifueled pure car truck carriers (PCTCs).
As explained, the order includes 16 deepwell fuel pumps. The eight new PCTCs will be constructed at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu). Each vessel will have the capacity to transport more than 9,000 units.
According to the company, the new ships will be among the most environmentally friendly PCTCs ever built and will be prepared to operate on LNG, ammonia, and methanol.

Italian shipping major Grimaldi has lifted the option for the construction of an additional five ammonia-ready Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) vessels at China Merchants Heavy Industries Jiangsu.
The first five vessels were ordered in October 2022 under a contract with included an option for additional five units, for a total investment of approximately 1 billion euros.
The concept of the new buildings was developed by the Grimaldi Group in collaboration with the Knud E. Hansen naval design. The vessels have received the Ammonia Ready class notation from Italian shipping register RINA, which certifies that the ships are designed for eventual conversion for the use of ammonia as marine fuel.
