Human Rights at Sea has published a new independent review into implementing the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights throughout the maritime sector.

The extensive report provides both an introduction to the UN Guiding Principles (UNGP) and highlights ongoing developments in the maritime sector under the three UNGP pillars.

It points to areas within maritime sectors where further work is needed to ensure that commercial engagement fully aligns with the Guiding Principles.

The UNGP have now been in place for over a decade. Still, the degree and quality of their implementation across global supply chains requires significantly more investment and development

A LNG carrier is a ship that is designed for the transport of liquefied natural gas in its chilled tanks. Worldwide there are around 360 of these advanced, specialized vessels that are used specifically for the transport of liquefied natural gas.[2] Compared to conventional vessels, LNG carriers release less greenhouse gas emissions because of their natural gas-fueled propulsion system.

Since the gas is transported in its liquid form and because of their physical properties, they are transported either at pressures much greater than atmospheric pressures, at very low temperatures, or some combination of the two. Therefore, the ships can be classified as:[3]

  1. Fully pressurized
  2. Semi-pressurized and refrigerated
  3. Fully

On September 22, “MV YUAN JIN HAI”, a vessel operated by COSCO SHIPPING Bulk, passed through the new channel in the central Bohai Sea with a full load and safely berthed at No. 5 Ore Terminal in Caofeidian Port Area, Tangshan Port, Hebei Province.

The vessel marked the successful launch of the “new channel” for 400,000-TEU giant ships to enter and exit the deep-water route of the Bohai Sea.

MV YUAN JIN HAI loaded 390,200 tons of iron ore, broke the three records of maximum cargo volume, maximum deadweight tonnage and maximum draught for ultra-large dry bulk carriers berthing at the port.
