Grounding

On January 3, the 178 meter long bulk carrier Sunrise ran aground in the Black Sea off the entrance to the port of Burgas, Bulgaria.  The Sunrise had departed from Brake with a cargo of pipes and was approaching the entrance to Burgas when it ran onto the shallow water. Three tugs were able to refloat the bulk carrier a short time later.  No reports of injuries, damage or pollution released.

The 29 meter long offshore supply vessel JHC Transporter collided with the 63 meter long general cargo ship Elvi Kull on the Kiel Canal at the 88.7 kilometer mark. The Elvi Kull struck head-on with JHC Transporter and sustained only minor scratches.  The JHC Transporter suffered significant damage to its bow with a large gash above the waterline.  Both vessels proceeded to Kiel for inspection. The water police launched an investigation into the incident. The Elvi Kull was allowed to continue on its voyage to Heiligenhafen. The JHC Transporter proceeded to a shipyard in Kiel.  No reports of injuries or pollution released.

Hoegh Osaka grounded in the Solent

Ingar Skiaker, CEO of Höegh Autoliners made the following statement in the press conference yesterday.

“Our vessel Höegh Osaka is currently grounded at Bramble Bank in the Solent outside the port of Southampton. All crew plus one pilot, in total 25 people were evacuated from the vessel and all are safe and accounted for. Two crew members were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crew is currently being offered all possible support and assistance to help them cope with the ordeal they have been through. We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this

BRINDISI-

Ore 13 partite le operazione guidate della Capitaneria di porto di Brindisi per mettere in sicurezza l’ormeggio della Norman Atlantic sulla banchina di Costa Morena. Si sta procedendo all’affiancamento della nave alla banchina, questo permetterà di migliorare le modalità di avvicinamento dei vigili del fuoco  impegnati nel raffreddamento e spegnimento dell’incendio ancora in corso sulla nave. Continui focolai si innescano con il vento e l’ossigeno.


 

 

Per domani presso gli uffici della capitaneria di Porto di Brindisi convocata una riunione tecnica con vigili del fuoco e esperti per stabilire un piano su come aggredire l’incendio e mettere la nave in sicurezza. Sarà stabilito anche tempi e modalità per entrare nella stiva, dove è probabile sia scoppiato

Wreck of capsized cargo ship the Cemfjord found on seabed off northern Scotland

The eight crew members on board are feared dead

 The wreck of a cargo ship that capsized during a violent storm off the Scottish coast has reportedly been found on the seabed.

The Cemfjord, a Cypriot-registered Cargo ship, had been carrying cement from Denmark to Runcorn in Cheshire when it disappeared on Saturday. Its eight crew members are feared dead.

It was located on Monday in the eastern approaches to the Pentland Firth using sonar equipment, the BBC reported.

Its overturned hull was spotted in the area, between mainland Scotland and the Orkney Islands, by a passing ferry that raised the alarm.
