The European Commission welcomes the final adoption by the Council of a Directive on port reception facilities for the delivery and management of waste from ships. It was proposed in January 2018, together with the Plastics strategy, as part of the Circular Economy Package.
The Directive tackles all waste from ships and will also apply to waste collected in nets during fishing operations. It sets measures to ensure this waste is returned to land to adequate port reception facilities, where the waste should be collected separately for recycling. The new rules will enable a mix of incentive and enforcement measures, such as a targeted inspection regime, supported by digital reporting of waste notification and waste receipt information, and cost recovery systems, based on an indirect fee.

La terminal de Reganosa en la ría ferrolana ya ha recibido en estos nueve primeros meses del año tantos buques como durante todo el año pasado. Así, desde enero y hasta ahora a sus instalaciones han llegado 16 metaneros: tres para operaciones de enfriamiento y puesta en gas, y otros trece para realizar descargas.
Cuando, el lunes, arribó a Reganosa el barco Maran Gas Troyse dio la circunstancia en la ría que llegaron a coincidir hasta cuatro gaseros, ya que había otros tres, que actualmente llevan a cabo distintos trabajos

Every year, people have died from accidents with cryogenic liquids. The enormous volume expansion of 600 to one for LNG, and 350 to one for LPG, takes everyone by surprise when there is a leakage or accidental spill. The vapours are non-toxic and odourless, and can easily reduce the oxygen level below that needed for respiration. There is no physiological warning of oxygen deficiency, and asphyxia will kill very quickly.
If handling a cryogenic liquid in a confined space, beware of the danger of asphyxia: carry a reliable oxygen meter to provide continuous monitoring of the air you are breathing.
This chapter includes a number of advisory points on safety by the author, from some 60 years of storing, handling and carrying out research on all kinds of cryogenic liquids, including LNGs, LPGs and Freon mixtures.
