Satellites make it possible to identify and track seafaring vessels all over the world, covering the oceans and the Arctic.
Ships of 300 tonnes or more on international voyages, cargo ships of 500 tonnes or more in local waters and all passenger ships irrespective of size are mandated by the International Maritime Organization to carry automatic identification system (AIS) equipment.
International AIS is the maritime equivalent of air traffic control. This radio-based communications system was originally developed to prevent collisions of large vessels. It transmits the course and speed as well as identification and position information to other vessels and shore stations.

Se pone énfasis en las naves que sean elegibles para control por parte de la Guardia Costera de EE.UU.
Para mejorar el control, la supervisión y el porcentaje de cumplimiento de la flota que compone el Registro de Buques de Panamá, la Autoridad Marítima de Panamá (AMP) a través de la Dirección General de Marina Mercante (DGGM), introdujo medidas para reforzar el programa de inspección de bandera, haciendo énfasis en las naves que recalen en puertos estadounidenses y que sean elegibles para una Inspección del Estado del Puerto (PSC) por parte de la Guardia Costera de EE.UU. (USCG).

China may have enough resources to expand its naval force to 419 ships and submarines in the next ten years, including five aircraft carriers and 28 nuclear-powered subs, according to a new report.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) already has the largest navy in the world by number with approximately 355 ships and submarines, according to the Pentagon.
“China’s Choices,” a new report by the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments (CSBA), an independent
