Su traslado desde el Pabellón de la Marina forma parte de la reestructuración de la Fuerza de Acción Marítima ordenada por el Almirante Jefe de Estado Mayor de la Armada.

La Torres del Oro desde Almirante Lobo. / Pizarro

La Comandancia Naval de Sevilla, ubicada actualmente en la avenida Moliní, tiene previsto trasladarse y volver 85 años después a las instalaciones de la Torre del Oro como parte de la reestructuración de la Fuerza de Acción Marítima ordenada por el Almirante Jefe de Estado Mayor de la Armada. Al frente estará un capitán de navío en activo que compaginará los cargos de Comandante Naval de Sevilla y director del Museo Marítimo.

Strong Orderbook for Wärtsilä

 

Helsinki-based Wärtsilä Corporation has a strong order intake in the third quarter of this year, according to its Interim report covering January-September 2014.

Order intake increased 21% to EUR 1,309 million (1,086) in the third quarter, whereas net sales decreased 7% to EUR 1,117 million (1,199).

Other financial highlights include:

  • Book-to-bill 1.17 (0.91)
  •  Operating result before non-recurring items EUR 142 million, or 12.7% of net sales (EUR 148 million or 12.3%)
  •  Earnings per share EUR 0.43 (0.48)
  • Cash flow from operating activities EUR 68 million (139)

The Panama Canal Expansion is the largest project at the Canal since its original construction. The project will create a new lane of traffic along the Canal through the construction of a new set of locks, doubling the waterway’s capacity.

The program consists of several components/projects:

  • New Locks (Third Set of Locks), which is the construction of two lock complexes, which will create a third lane of traffic;
  • Pacific Access Channel, also known as PAC4, which is the excavation of a 6.1 km-long access channel for the new Pacific locks to bypass Miraflores Lake;

 

  • Dredging of the navigational channels along the waterway;

 

  • Improvements to water supply by raising Gatun Lake maximum

CMA CGM Continues with Bulbous Bow Retrofits

The CMA CGM Group will retrofit 10 of its vessels’ bulbous bows in order to continue improving its fleet’s energy efficiency and reduce environmental footprint.

The bulbous bows exchanges that are performed within a week in repair yards’ drydocks reduce significantly the ship’s fuel consumption and cut CO2 emissions.

Bulbous bows are the underwater part of the bow. Because of their influence on the vessel’s wave resistance, their design has a major impact on the vessel hydrodynamic efficiency.

They were initially designed for 24 knots sailing speed. Following the implementation of the slow steaming, the Group’s vessels now sail at speeds between 16 to 18 knots. Bulbous bows have therefore been redesigned.

Maersk Supply Service orders six AHTS vessels

Maersk Supply Service has signed a contract with Kleven Maritime AS for six anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessels with options for four additional vessels. All vessels are of SALT ship design.

 

The 95m-long and 25m-wide DP2 vessels achieve a 230-tonne bollard pull. They are configured to accommodate 52 persons in single cabins.
