Sleek passenger liners used to be masters of the seas, charging across the Atlantic for the coveted Blue Riband Trophy, but now behemoth container ships chase the more prosaic accolade of the world’s biggest floating warehouse.
The current holder, the Hong Kong-registered CSCL Globe, recently docked for the first time in the UK on a mission to re stock the nation with 57,000 tons of consumer goods after the Christmas clear-out.
Its vital statistics are as eye-watering as its precipitous layers of containers that teetered over its deep-water berth at Felixstowe docks in Suffolk.

Norwegian Escape is a new cruise ship being built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany, for Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). It will be the first ship in the Project Breakaway Plus series and the biggest cruise ship in NCL's fleet.
Norwegian Escape will be home-ported in Miami and is expected to embark on its seven-day maiden voyage in November 2015 to Eastern Caribbean, sailing through Tortola, the British Virgin Islands; St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands; and Nassau, Bahamas.

Shanghái aumenta medidas de seguridad marítima en su Zona de Libre Comercio
EXPANSIÖN
Shanghái (China), 22 dic (EFECOM).- La Administración de Seguridad Marítima de Shanghái pondrá en marcha a partir de 2015 una nueva serie de medidas piloto para mejorar el nivel de seguridad de las operaciones marítimas desde la Zona Piloto de Libre Comercio de China (ZPLC), que contiene el mayor puerto mercante del mundo.
Las medidas que se aplicarán en esta zona especial, creada en septiembre de 2013, a la que se sumarán en un futuro próximo otras tres que se abrirán en las regiones de Cantón (sureste), Fujian (este) y Tianjin (noreste), evaluarán públicamente a todas las firmas de transporte y logística de la ZPLC.
