Gibraltar supplied almost a third of Spain’s maritime fuel imports last year, according to figures reported by the Spanish press.

Data from Spain’s strategic petroleum reserves body, CORES, shows fuel imports from Gibraltar reached 1.89 million tonnes in 2025, accounting for just over 30 per cent of Spain’s total fuel oil imports.

The report by CORES shows Spain imported a total of 256 thousand tonnes of petrol products from Gibraltar in 2025.

Gibraltar was the second highest exported to Spain after Italy, according to the statistic.

The report by Europa Sur suggests Gibraltar has gone from being a marginal supplier in 2021 to one of Spain’s main external sources of marine fuel in just five years.
