Maritime State University named after Admiral GI. Nevelskoy became the center of a series of events and public events timed to the 110th anniversary of the birth of the world’s first female captain of the sea Anna Shchetinina. For all the thousands of staff of the University, the end of February was marked by the famous female captain, who trained several generations of his successors during the years of work as assistant professor at the Department of Ship Management and Technical Maintenance.

An LNG tanker designed for icy conditions has become the first commercial ship to travel the Arctic’s northern sea route in winter.

It marks a milestone in the opening up of Russia’s northern coastline, as thawing polar ice makes industrial development and maritime trade increasingly viable.

The data on the rising number of seafarers who are “active and employed” on world merchant shipping fleet will help India prove a point against global agencies that have suggested a waning popularity of Indian seafarers among fleet owners and ship managers.
