MHI delivers cargo-passenger ship "Tachibana-Maru" to Tokai Kisen

On June 4 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) delivered the cargo-passenger ship "Tachibana-Maru" to Tokai Kisen Co., Ltd. at its Shimonoseki Shipyard and Machinery Works, the Company said Wednesday in a press release.
The vessel is a "super eco-ship" with a high-efficiency propulsion system that achieves outstanding energy savings, environmental load reduction, and enhanced passenger comfort and safety. The ship also features a fresh new color scheme of yellow ocher and olive green designed by Ryohei Yanagihara, a well-known Japanese illustrator who is also an honorary captain at Tokai Kisen.
The cargo-passenger ship measures 118.0 meters (m) in length overall (LOA), 17.0m in width, and 8.95m in height (5.40m in draft). The 5,681 gross tonnage vessel has a

Teekay, Chinese partner negotiating Yamal Icebreaker shipyard

Teekay LNG in March signed an LOI for a 50/50 joint venture with a Chinese LNG shipping company, to provide six icebreaking LNG carriers to ship from the Yamal LNG project.

Yamal LNG terminal, located on the Yamal Peninsula in Northern Russia, is a joint-venture company operated jointly by oil and gas companies, Russian Novatek (60 percent), French Total (20 percent) and Chinese state-controlled China National Petroleum Corporation CNPC (20 percent).

Teekay and its Chinese partner are now negotiating contract terms, including the shipbuilding

contracts and related time-charters, which it expects to finalise before the end of the year.

Knutsen NYK JV takes interest in two carriers



Japanese shipping company NYK Line and Norwegian Knutsen OAS shipping, through its entity TS Shipping Invest AS (TSSI), have agreed 50/50 ownership on two LNG carriers being built for Gas Natural Fenosa charter.


Norway’s Knutsen OAS last May had concluded a shipbuilding deal with Hyundai Heavy Industries for two hulls for its new ship owning companies, Norspan LNG IX AS and Norspan LNG X AS.

Gas Natural selected it to manage two newbuildings for the Stream LNG fleet, formerly owned

by Spanish Repsol. The fleet is now owned by Shell.

Spanish shipping company Elcano around the same time reportedly booked two LNG newbuildings for Gas Natural charter.

Owners' LNG boxship bid


          A group led by Finland's Containerships has ordered up to four new dual-fuel boxships for European short-sea trades.

The company said it has teamed up with GNS Shipping/Nordic Hamburg and Arkon Shipping on the vessels, which will use LNG, but could also use conventional bunkers.

The order is for two firm ships, plus two options, but the yard has not been disclosed.

Containerships will be chartering the units over the long term, while the owner and technical manager will be GNS Shipping/Nordic Hamburg.

Arkon will provide commercial management.

The first two will be delivered in 2016.

"Containerships will thus be the first short-sea container operator in Europe to run ships on LNG," it said.

It added the vessels will offer the most efficient and environmentally friendly option for transporting containers by sea, and will exceed environmental standards in the sulphur emission control area (SECA).
