The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has come under heavy criticism by operators over illegal import of adulterated petroleum products by importers at the popular Ibafon petroleum jetty in Lagos.

This allegation was leveled by operators, even as they further accused the agency's officials at the jetty of sabotaging the essence of their establishment.

The operators who pleaded anonymity revealed that the practice is common at the Ibafon jetty, but added that the Ijora jetties are not left out.

Sources revealed to Shipping Position Daily, yesterday, that officials from the DPR found joy in dealing with importers that bring in such sub standard products over those that import high quality products.

The insider sources disclosed that any importation of such sub standard product attract N500, 000 and above.

He called on the federal government to monitor the situation through Department of State Security Services (DSS) adding that the officials on ground at the jetty aid importation of sub standard products.

According to him, officers of DPR have been feeding fat on the illicit act, he stressed that there is need for the appropriate supervisory ministry to put mechanisms in place to stop it.

Some of the product mostly affected in the practice includes; Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) and Automated Gas Oil otherwise known as diesel.

Speaking further he said:"Officials of the DPR make matters worse for us because they have compromised on the reasons behind their establishment"

"You can imagine where an importer of such products tell officials of DPR that they have adulterated product; only for them to gladly negotiate with them because of their selfish interest"

"They will prefer to attend to those who are bad businessmen and cause delay for those who have good products”
